unemployment... self reliance... independence (from poverty)

Have we tried making our needs with our own hands? Quiet vague i think... what i really mean to say is, did we consider to make what we need using our best to make it? For example, we need a toy car when we were small. What do we do? Do we ask our mom and dad for money to buy the toy? Or do we try to make one for ourselves since our parents can't provide one for us...

I remember when I was small (i still am), and  we make toy cars out of sardines cans, with wheels from old slippers cut into circles... or toy guns made of the soft wood from coconut stalks? (palwa) We also use to make our own tops instead of buying it from the vendors at our market. Sure, the makers of these toys are good and has a superior quality compared to our hand-crafted toys. But then, if we stayed as children long enough and had mastered our craft, we could have built and improved our toys with time.

Let me go to the point, we as Filipinos, have we tried making our own cars? our own TV's our own Washing machine?, Our own refrigerators? Yes and No... some of us did for our own consumption. Won't we be employing more and earning more if do these things through our own hands? We're having problems providing planes for our Airforce... did we consider innovations on our old dusty airplanes, and making some too? Cebu has an underground firearms factory known as paltik... why not tap this resource and developed by the government to empower the military... is it because of it's superiority? come to think of it... it can be refined once it is funded and managed right... Filipino's are skilled workers and craftsmen... we know that in our hearts... Ask any unemployed if they'll accept an open job and I believe around 80 percent would accept any job even if it is not related to their background. This untapped workforce can create... they are not just utilized...

Let's try this, what do Borongan need? Good schools, Good Job appropriate to the finished courses...

Now let us site an example: Agriculture... ESSC produces agriculture majors... where and what work would they fit in?

This would connect to Our own needs... Fish, Poultry, Grains, Veges, Fruits, and a lot more... If some locals with an entreprenurial spirit rise to the occasion and invest in agriculture, a lot of this graduates will be employed locally. And the returns would then benefit the town... the more residents are employed, the more will the consumers be... and the more the needs will be...

Lets try coconut... before, the coconut market was purely copra... but then it has diversified into bio-deisel, virgen coconut oil, copra, handicrafts and anything in-between. Gasoline prices are so high, and
bio-deisel is a product that can balance these problem. DOST found a way to refine the coconut oil into a CME... Our Local government can search and negotiate buyers of this kind of product and invest in it's production... in this way, a new job will be born and would create happier citizens on a typhoon ravaged land.

This examples can be anything, as long as there is a need within the local munucipality and the country...

.... SELF RELIANCE...
